Yes, we have windows. All of a sudden the dark extension is looking bright and cheerful. What a difference it makes!
After a rotten week I was really looking forward to putting my feet up and knit, or just stare into the distance, preferably all weekend long. Friday was particularly crazy but once I had showered and put on a nice dress, laced up my Doc Martens and walked with Richard down towards the bowling club, the gentle breeze started to blow away the stress and when I arrived, I was ready to smile. It was the PTA quiz night, an evening I always enjoy. Two rounds in and two glasses of Prosecco later I was ready to laugh. It was a fun night and my all woman team came second. It was quite a difficult quiz, not surprising because Richard and his friend Neil were quizmasters.
I had even forgotten that I was anxious about Sam, who was camping with his Explorer Scouts friends. Who else would go camping in November?! They left the leaders at home but went to the nearby Scout outdoor centre in Auchengillan, so not completely off the grid and I was glad to know they could get help and shelter if conditions were too poor. Richard drove him and a few fellow Scouts to camp early on Friday evening, it was sleeting, the temperature was baltic and it was pitch black. Nobody else was camping. Of course not. Sam returned on Saturday, happy, tired and smelling like a smoked sausage. I haven't seen him for more than a few minutes since. I haven't asked for a detailed camp report either.
Saturday was peaceful. First thing, I pottered around the house, tidying here and there, dealing with the laundry and stuff like that. It was quite pleasant. I kept venturing into the extension and soak up the light coming through the roof windows. Later, Jack and I met friends (his and mine) for a walk. The paths were treacherous, black ice in many places but I have no broken bones or bruised buttocks to report. Lunch was a morning roll with Lorne sausage and potato scone. Nothing quite beats roll and sausage the Scottish way. Except maybe two of them. You must try this when you next visit Scotland. Some knitting and a coffee with friends concluded the afternoon. The evening was equally pleasant, more knitting and listening to a new audiobook. In case you are wondering, kids and Richard have not moved out, they were all busy with their own things.
Sunday started slow with a long walk. Just me and Jack. Richard and the little creatures went to see a movie. Annie was feeling poorly and didn't feel like doing anything. Sam was still recovering. This was followed by an afternoon of blissful nothing. I did knit a few rows and cut leftover fabric from Sam's quilt into strips for the back but largely I stared into the mid distance. Richard cooked dinner, roast pork, roast potatoes and red cabbage, some chicken for me because I am not very fond of roast pork. The discarded oven in the building site is still going strong.
Now I am settled comfortably in my armchair, ready for some more of doing nothing much at all. Some weekends have to be like that, otherwise the week days in between would not be manageable.
The photos are from my lone walk this morning.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend, too! x
