Welcome to my Friday' Favorites for this week. I am, as always, joining with Susanne and friends over at Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five.
Cool, Rainy Day - Although most of the week was as hot as it usually is during the Dog Days of Summer, Wednesday was cloudy, cool and rainy, and the cooler temps lingered into Thursday. A respite from the heat was very nice, and we really needed the rain after a lot of dry days during the past month.
A New Haircut - I am not crazy about how I look with short hair, but I decided to go short after reading that the virus can cling to hair and that people with long hair need to wear it up. Because I am not great at putting my hair up in a bun, this haircut is one way I am getting ready to go back to school next month. I am getting used to shorter hair. It is certainly cooler and lighter. I think I will keep it this way for a while.
A Favorite Food From My Childhood - Wednesday night, I made this, Tamale Pie, which was one of my favorite childhood foods.
My sweet mom wrote down the recipe for me over 40 years ago, when I was a newlywed. You can tell I have used this recipe many times over the years.
My mom got the recipe from our bishop's (pastor) wife when I was about 8-years-old. I am glad my family still enjoys this favorite even now.
Sewing Machine Serviced - After sewing about 360 masks, it was time to take my 20+ year-old sewing machine in for routine service, cleaning and oiling. One problem with the machine - the reverse - button could not be repaired. With a machine this old, a new part was not available. The machine still sews great and I made all the masks without a reverse button. It just takes a few seconds longer to stop and turn the fabric to secure the stitch. Because the technician couldn't repair the reverse button, he didn't charge me at all even though he completely serviced the machine. Since the usual rate for routine service is $139, it was a real blessing to get the service done with no charge.
Those are some of the things I am grateful for this week. What are you grateful for?
Have a good Friday and a great weekend!
