All the decorating is done and it's time to sit back and enjoy the season!
Louis Dean is slowly getting better but he is still not well yet.
He hasn't been out of the house since last Monday except to walk outside once a few days ago. The wind and whatever was in the air made him even sicker and he was back in bed again!
Hopefully tomorrow he will be better and we have a few places we need to go.
He is really SICK of being sick!!!
He's not contagious since it's asthma and allergies so the quads arrived Saturday evening to spend the night right on schedule. The first thing we did was put on our jingle bell necklaces and go for a walk through the neighborhood looking at the Christmas lights. We took Lucy with us and the kids took turns holding her leash. She literally drug them a time or two and then THEY drug her as well!!
Back home for some playtime while I prepared dinner.
Corny Dogs and Hash Browns and Ranch Style Beans!
Two of the four ate TWO corny dogs!!!
They laughed and giggled the entire time they were here!!
We LOVE that sound!!!
I read a chapter of Little House on the Prairie and then it was time for bed.
Kailey slept with Granddad in the guest room and Logan slept beside me with Trystan across the foot of the bed. Harrison slept on the floor beside our bed. Louis Dean rested with Kailey while I catnapped with the others until they were asleep. Then we got back up to finish watching the football game!
We all got a good night's sleep!
It was late when we put the kids to bed but they slept a good 10 hours!
This morning my crew woke up first. It was about 8:30 and Trystan said, "Look, MeeMaw!! The sun is up!!" We all got up quietly and went out to the den to play until Granddad and Kailey woke up.
I made coffee, cleaned the fireplace and started a fresh fire while the kids colored some papers.
Kailey woke up happy!!!
She dearly loves the toy cash register and the play money that goes with it.
She gets a handful of bills and holds on to them for ever so long!!
After a first cup of coffee, Louis Dean was awake enough to fry up some sausage, fry up some eggs and bake up some biscuits. I was out of milk so we had some Strawberry Banana Smoothies I had in the fridge. Win! WIN!!!
I opted not to even try to take all four to church this morning by myself since Louis Dean wouldn't be able to go. Instead we did a little lesson on the nativity using my art appreciation pictures.
Last week our painting was The Arrival of the Shepherds and the kids noticed the wise men were NOT in it!!
This morning I gathered up four different nativity scenes and they each chose one.
One by one, they described what they saw and then what they saw on this week's painting - Adoration of the Magi by Giotto. I heard Trystan say, "Look, GUYS!!! Here's the Wise Men!!"
Children are like little sponges just soaking everything up.
It reminds me to make certain I have good and godly things for them to absorb!
Their Mama had packed up a bag with their clothes for today all packaged and labeled!
This made for an easy dressing time! Kailey was the only one who combed through the bag of 'extra' clothing for what she wanted to wear!
Our featured entertainment for the day was a movie - The Minions!!!
They stayed focused through the whole thing - they had already seen it once in the theater!
Even Granddad stayed interested!
I popped up some popcorn about halfway through and when the movie was over they wanted to go outside to play. Doesn't EVERY child want to play outside??
Mama and Dada picked them up about 1:30 and Louis Dean and I went back to bed!
I'm sure everyone can understand that!
This evening I started the Texas Trash marathon!!!!
THAT will make a LOT of Trash!!!
I layered it all in so I wouldn't have to work so hard to get it mixed up.
This is BEFORE the butter, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings and BAKING.
My mother used to make whole trash cans FULL of this stuff!!!
We all loved it and she gave some to all of her kids and families as well as all her employees!
It wasn't until I started making it myself after she had a stroke in 2005 that I fully appreciated the gift of Texas Trash! It is not cheap and it is time consuming!!!
It is WORTH every bit of it though!!!!
At midnight I took the last two trays out of the oven!
It is DONE!!!
I will pack it all up into tins tomorrow!
NOW all I want to do is go to bed!!!
I close with a photo from this time 6 years ago when we were in Aberdeen Scotland.
Amber took this pic and I loved it then and I love it now.
Brings back such good memories!
It was an experience we will never forget!!!
